Practice From References

This creature is featured in a classic SEGA game called Golden Axe. [ Feb. 2022 Drawing ]

This is where you will find reference images I have used to test my skills, practice, and challenge myself to grow from each experience. To see that I am capable of learning something new in the process of recreating an image or photo gives a motivational boost which pushes doubts aside more and more with each accomplishment.

Sometimes the pressure to produce art as stunning and inspirational as others can create doubts that what can be produced is not good enough and needs some work. To aid my thinking against my own abilities/skills, drawing from references show me that my skills are capable of something decent depending on how they are applied.

Overall, you can challenge yourself against those types of thinking in your own way. Most of the time I do what I can to complete a full reference, that does not mean sketches are not as effective to learn from too. Some people can doodle really well, change their mediums ( tools used to create art ), approach in a different way, or simply take a break and come back with a fresh mindset to deal with doubts or negative opposing thoughts.

Be honest with yourself, target your weak spots, improve your strengths, stay focused, and keep drawing.

This is the result of my efforts to redraw and color Golden Axe's creature from reference, after not drawing for a long time. [ Feb. 2022 Drawing ]
